Sony has expanded its range of wireless headphones in India with the launch of WH-1000XM5 noise cancelling headphones – successor to the much popular WH-100XM4. The new WH-1000XM5 wireless headphones have a new design with stepless sliding headphones, improved ANC with two processors and eight microphones and more.

However, customers can pre-order the WH-1000XM5 headphones at an introductory price of Rs 26,990 starting today. The headphones will be available for purchase across Sony Centres, retail stores and e-commerce portals in India.

Sony’s new wireless noise cancelling headphones, the WH-100XM5 come with a new thinner and stepless headband design and sideways rotating ear cups. With the headphones, comes a new small backpack-like carrying case, which matches the colour of the headphones – Black and Silver.
The right ear cup has a touch-sensitive area, which can be used to control playback and volume controlled by gestures. There is a power/ pairing button, ANC button and 3.5mm audio jack on the right left ear cup. For charging, there is a USB-C port on the right side.
The WH-1000XM5 features dual in-house processors — the integrated processor V1 and QN1 HD noise cancelling processor, for improved ANC. Further, the headphones have microphones to further enhance the noise cancellation. Meanwhile, four of these microphones are beamforming, which paired with AI technology claims to offer clear voice quality over calls.
Compared to the WH-1000XM4, the Sony WH-1000XM5 has a smaller 30mm driver, promising to offer natural sound output with a better high-frequency response.
The headphones support Bluetooth 5.2, bringing support for multipoint connectivity. As for audio codecs, the WH-1000XM5 has support for AAC, SBC and LDAC. The WH-100XM5 also supports Sony’s upscaling technology, the DSEE Extreme.
Similar to the previous generation, the Sony WH-1000XM5 also promises a battery life of up to 30 hours on a single charge. The new headphones have fast-charging support, promising to give 3 hours of battery life with 3 minutes of charge.
