SpaceX’s satellite internet service Starlink Aviation coming: Time, pricing, speed and all other details

Elon Musk’s SpaceX‘s satellite internet service Starlink will soon be available on select aeroplanes. The company has announced the launch of Starlink Aviation. It claims that the service will offer internet speeds of up to 350Mbps to each plane equipped with its Aero Terminal, which it says is fast enough for video calls, online gaming, “and other high data rate activities.” The promised speed is a big leap from the typical speeds offered by most in-flight Wi-Fi.
Where is Starlink Aviation service available?
Starlink Aviation will have global coverage. Since the satellites are moving in low-earth orbit, there are always satellites overhead or nearby to provide a strong signal at high latitudes and in polar regions – unlike with geo-stationary satellites.
Service will be available in-flight over land and water and on the ground during taxi, takeoff, and landing. As long as the equipment is powered on and the Starlink has an unobstructed view of the sky, connection is possible.
Which aircraft types are supported for Starlink Aviation?
Supplemental type certificates (STCs) are in development for the following aircraft: ERJ-135, ERJ-145, G650, G550, Falcon 2000, G450, Challenger 300, Challenger 350, Global Express, Global 5000, Global 6000, and Global 7500. The Starlink engineering team will update this list as development begins on additional aircraft.
How do I order Starlink Aviation?
Reservations for Starlink Aviation can be made at starlink.com/aviation. They require an initial $5,000 credit card payment. “In the coming months, the Starlink team will reach out to you to discuss next steps and service options prior to finalising your hardware order,” says the company.
When will service start
The service will start in mid-2023.
What about the hardware
There will be no long-term contracts and all plans include unlimited data. Users’ hardware will be under warranty for as long as they subscribe to the service.
