To be as personalised as Spotify claims to be, the DJ goes through the latest releases, takes a peek into some old timers, then learns what you like and don’t, serving hot your favourites, picked especially for you. And it keeps learning as you keep listening.

Guess who’s behind the AI DJ of Spotify? It is none other than OpenAI, the maker of hotshot ChatGPT. And all the commentary you will listen to, none of it is pre-recorded, it is all generative AI tech of OpenAI, although there have been music experts, culture experts, data curators, and scriptwriters helping it.
The “stunningly realistic voice” is of the company’s head of cultural partnerships, Xavier “X” Jernigan, powered by Sonantic AI, a voice tech startup Spotify purchased last year.
So, if you do not feel like cruising through the sea of playlists, you can simply tap the DJ button, and you will have your own pocket DJ taking you through the listening session. And if you do not like the music it is playing, simply tap the DJ button again at the bottom.
However, do note that the DJ is currently under beta. Also, it is only available to Premium users in the US and Canada, only in the English language.
