steam top selling games: Age of Empires 4 becomes top seller on Steam, gets over 73,900 concurrent players during opening weekend – Times of India

Age of Empires 4 (AoE4), the long-awaited real time strategy game in the Age of Empires franchise, launched recently. The game’s opening weekend saw a total number of 73,928 people playing the game just on Steam, as per SteamDB. AoE 4 is currently sitting at the number 1 “Top Sellers” spot on Steam, with Forza Horizon 5. The Forest, Amazon’s New World and Football Manager occupying the second, third, fourth and fifth slots respectively. At the time of publishing this article, the game had 63,242 concurrent players.
As per a report by PC Gamer, this weekend player count stats by the real time strategy game beat Garry’s Mod, Vermintide 2, or XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
It is still early days for the RTS game, but the numbers show that longtime fans of the series have shown that they are willing to check out another Age of Empires outing which is a main game entry into the franchise too. The familiarity with the playing style and the release of the Definitive Editions in between the main game entries have helped keep the franchise alive.
Age of Empires 4 comes with eight playable civilisations: English, Mongols, Chinese, Delhi Sultanate, Abbasid Dynasty, French, Holy Roman Empire and Rus. There are four story-based campaigns with 35 missions in total. These include the Norman campaign, Hundred Years War, The Rise of Moscow and The Mongol Empire. You can play online with up to 7 of your friends in PVP and PVE multiplayer.
It is a good time for real time strategy games, with major franchises like Age of Empires and Company of Heroes getting main game entries. The Pre Alpha build of Company of Heroes was released worldwide on Steam sometime back, and a lot of players took a shot at the game, with inputs which we are sure will be valuable for developers at Relic.
