Stunning electric bike from Halfords makes switching to battery more affordable than ever

Electric bikes have exploded in popularity in the last few years and there’s now more choice than ever before. However, one thing that might be holding you back from ditching good old fashioned pedal power is the price. If you’re looking to get an electric bike, typically you’ll be looking to spend over £2,000. Models such as the Gocyle G4, Canyon Roadlite cost in excess of £3,000 while Specialised’s Turbo range begins from £2,500.

If you want to see what all the fuss is about when it comes to electric bike, but don’t want to break the bank, then Halfords has just taken stock of some new Carrera bikes that may be perfect for you.

For some time now, Carrera has been releasing electric bikes, which buck the typical market trend of costing a few thousand pounds. And its latest range, the Impel, is no exception with prices starting from around £1,000.

There are two models in the Impel range – the im-1 and im-2 – can be purchased online or in-store today, while the top-of-the-line im-3 will be in stock from October 11. And despite the eye-catching price tag, you won’t be scrimping on features.

The im-1, which is priced at £1,099, and the im-2 (which costs £1,299) both have a top speed of 15.5mph, a range of up to 50 miles and a recharge time of between five to seven hours.

This is a better range than the more expensive Gocycle G4 (priced at £3,339), and the Cowboy 4 (priced at £2,290). The top speed of the Impel bikes is limited to 15.5mph – that’s standard in the UK due to maximum legal limits.

If you’d still rather not fork out that much for an eBike in one go, then Halfords also offers a range of Klarna payment plans so you can spread out the cost of your shiny new electric bike over a number of months.

One of the most striking things about the Impel range is the way Carrera elegantly fits the battery pack into the frame. Instead of a frame mounted battery, the power pack simply looks like its part of the frame.

On the thick downtube the battery can click in and out, perfect if you need to carry it away for a quick top-up recharge or for security reasons.

The Impel im-1 is a single-gear eBike, while its older sibling has a derailleur on the rear wheel. This offers nine different gears that you’ll be able to go through. Both im-1 and im-2 bikes have built-in front and rear lights as well as two year warranty on the battery and all other electrical components.

Halfords also offers free safety checks for the bike’s lifetime as well a lifetime guarantee that covers the fork and frame.

If you like the sound of the Carrera Impel range, but want the best specs possible, then then im-3 which is launching next month has 10 gears, hydraulic disc brakes, a bigger battery and a 75 mile range.

The Carrera Impel bikes also boast Bluetooth support, different assistance modes and a walk mode.
