Tablet: A high-end Android ‘gaming’ tablet is in the works, claims report – Times of India
Gaming has not been the strong suit of Android tablets in general, barring a few high-end devices from some of the manufacturers. The Apple iPad, conversely, has been known to be used extensively for gaming by users. One reason for it is that is a dedicated OS for the tablet for which the games are optimised specifically, which makes for the smooth performance. The Android tablets, on the other hand, have to rely on the mobile OS only for the games. Both the smartphones and the tablets have to rely on the same Android and hence get access to the same version of the apps, some of which have trouble running well on a tablet. Besides, not most of the entry-level and mid-range Android tablets could boast gaming-centric hardware.
However, that could change in the near future as a gaming-focussed Android tablet powered by Snapdragon chipset and backed by 100W fast charging is said to be in the works, as per a report by the Digital Chat Station, seen by GizmoChina on Weibo.
According to the report, besides being powered by a top tier chipset from Qualcomm, the device will also feature an LCD display with a 120Hz or 144Hz refresh rate. So, clearly, it is going to be a flagship product and as such, a pricey one. As to which manufacturer is building it, rumours say it is one of the gaming smartphone makers like Asus, Red Magic and Black Shark. There is one other name that has cropped up: Oppo.
There are high chances of the renders of the device leaking in the market, which may also shed some light on the manufacturer of the tablet. For now, the news is a refreshing change and bodes well for people who look forward to gaming on tablets but don’t want to get into the Apple ecosystem.
