Tag Heuer, Nintendo collab brings Super Mario smartwatch to market

TL;DR

  • Tag Heuer is partnering with Nintendo to debut a Super Mario-themed smartwatch.
  • The device is based on the Connected smartwatch platform.
  • It will feature bespoke touches, including custom watch faces, a strap, and dial markings.

It’s a brand collab that probably seems out of place, but both firms are winning here. For Tag Heuer, it bolsters the firm’s smartwatch program. For Nintendo, it’s yet more Mario merchandise fans will desire.

To snag one will be a tough task, though. Per TechCrunch, the device will feature a limited run of 2,000 units, and its $2,150 price tag bolsters that exclusivity.

What that price tag does buy you is plenty of plumber-inspired touches. The watch is effectively a Tag Heuer Connected based on Wear OS. It features custom Mario watch faces, including a gamified fitness tracking system. Goals are celebrated by iconic animations, while the watch dial and strap also feature touches of red and Mushroom Kingdom-inspired engravings.

The watch features a 430mAh battery, built-in GPS, and a heart rate monitor in terms of specs. It’s not the most feature-rich smartwatch you can buy, but that’s probably not the reason most people would buy it.

Tag Heuer’s website is currently counting down to the device’s official release on July 15, but you can register ahead of time to gain the first word on its availability.
