Tata Nexon EV sales make Nexon the highest selling SUV in India

Tata Motors has enjoyed strong consumer rapport in the last couple of years with the introduction of a whole new portfolio of products. Tata’s EV division especially has pulled many heartstrings and the company plans to continue the onslaught with the introduction of newer models such as the Tata Nexon EV MAX, the Tata Altroz EV and more.

Tata Nexon becomes the highest selling SUV in India

The Tata Nexon sub-4m compact SUV is a popular car in the Indian car market owing to its robust build, new-age features, modern design and well-sorted performance and handling. The vehicle has done especially well in the fiscal year 2022 as it has surpassed the hot-selling Hyundai Creta to claim the crown of the highest selling SUV in India. This feat has been possible with the significant boost in sales coming from the Tata Nexon EV, the car’s electrified stablemate.

“Tata Nexon, as a brand, has resonated well with these buyers. With the 5-star Global NCAP ratings, it has created benchmarks in the segment. With the Nexon EV, we have diversified our offering and have been successful in creating a niche in the segment” said MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.

The Tata Nexon brand has recorded 1,24,130 units on its sales book, which is a 95 percent increase since last year and has helped the car gain the top position. The trusted Korean SUV that too enjoys a strong following was behind the Tata Nexon, with 1,18,092 units having been sold in 2022. The Tata Nexon brand has had some significant gains in sales thanks to the Tata Nexon EV which sold 14,248 units in FY2022, as compared to just 4,219 units in FY2021. The healthy growth has contributed to 11.5 percent of the total sales of the brand. Without this supplementary contribution, the ICE powered Tata Nexon would’ve trailed behind the Creta by some margin.

Tata Motors rejoices over the highest sales made by a brand in its portfolio since the Tata Indica, 15 years ago. The Indica which too was a pivotal brand of its day had booked 1,35,642 units back in FY2008. “As the consumer trend is transitioning towards SUVs, we are noticing that our portfolio is growing much stronger and Tata Nexon, since its launch, has been pivotal in accelerating our growth in the SUV segment. Today’s millennial buyers bring in a higher level of consciousness around safety as well as the environment” said Shailesh Chandra, managing director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.
