telegram: How Telegram is planning to monetise its platform
Telegram is expected to monetise the platform by enrolling users into the Telegram Premium feature. Android Police reports that the latest beta of Telegram’s iOS app indicates that users may soon be asked to pay to get more out of their messaging experiences.
The report mentions that the Telegram Beta channel has discovered a new collection of reaction emojis and stickers in the app’s 8.7.2 update version.
These emojis and stickers are reportedly marked as Telegram Premium exclusives and users will be prompted to sign up for the service upon choosing them. Moreover, free users will be even blocked from viewing these premium emojis and stickers that will appear in a conversation thread.
Earlier, Telegram tried to monetise the platform through ad sales and special features designed for huge group channels which were introduced in 2021.
The company has not revealed any details about the upcoming program. There is no information about the price of the service or what other perks it will offer. It is difficult to predict the features that the future Telegram Premium service will offer for free and the tools that the company will charge the users for.
Meanwhile, the report also suggests that Telegram might be working on an avatar creator for its emojis and stickers. The app running on macOS revealed this feature that will allow users to combine simple or patterned gradients with their favourite emoji or sticker or even just a monogram. However, no other information about the avatar creator is also not available at the moment.
