Tesla speaks up on its inability to offer self-driving cars | Digit

Tesla is being used by a customer for not offering self-driving cars yet. The company has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit as it is currently still working on the software.

A Tesla owner filed a lawsuit against the car manufacturer in September, for “allegedly misleading the public regarding its Autopilot, Enhanced Autopilot, and Full Self-Driving Capability (‘FSD’) technology.”. Tesla has been speaking about self-driving cars since 2016, saying that the feature will be available with future updates. However, so far, no such update has been released, which is what led to the agitated customer filing the lawsuit.

Tesla’s response to the lawsuit

Tesla has responded to the lawsuit with a motion to dismiss, stating “Mere failure to realize a long-term, aspirational goal is not fraud.” The company also argued that the complaint itself demonstrates Tesla’s dedication to offering a self-driving car.

“To the contrary, allegations in the Complaint demonstrate that Tesla has been constantly improving its ADAS technology by releasing software updates, with a goal of achieving more and better autonomy capabilities in the future.” said the company. “In addition, from early on, Tesla made clear that “there will still be a significant time gap, varying widely by jurisdiction before true self-driving is approved by regulators.”

In order to win this lawsuit, the Tesla owner will have to demonstrate beyond a shadow of a doubt that Tesla tricks people into buying cars by offering a feature they don’t have any intention of developing.
