The Exynos 2200 launch is delayed, but everything is fine

TL;DR

  • Samsung failed to hold an Exynos event yesterday as promised last month.
  • An official reportedly said that there weren’t any problems with the new SoC.

Samsung was supposed to hold an Exynos event yesterday, tweeting about a January 11 event last month. Unfortunately, the day came and went without an event taking place, and Samsung deleted the tweet in question.

Does this mean something went wrong with the Exynos 2200 chipset or that the company had a change of heart about using it? Well, a Samsung official told Business Korea that the company has simply decided to reveal the new processor at the same time as the Galaxy S22 series.

The comment comes after a shaky claim that the Exynos 2200 wouldn’t be used in the Galaxy S22 series and that Snapdragon power would be used across the board instead. This sounds extremely unlikely as Galaxy S22 series production will be underway already, so Samsung would’ve needed to ditch the Exynos chipset several months ago if that were the case.

In any event, the Exynos 2200 will be the first Samsung smartphone SoC powered by AMD graphics. AMD already confirmed that the GPU would be capable of ray-tracing and variable refresh rate technology.

We’re not expecting world-beating performance straight out of the gate, as it’s just the first chipset as part of this new partnership. But we’re definitely keen to see what kind of foundation the two companies can lay down for future processors.
