The first phone with 150W charging doesn’t sacrifice battery health

TL;DR

  • Realme has announced the GT Neo 3 in China.
  • This is the first phone with 150W charging support.
  • Thankfully, it looks like battery degradation won’t be a big problem here.

OnePlus and Realme announced plans to offer 150W charging back at MWC 2022, promising yet another high-speed charging upgrade. It turns out Realme is first to the post, as it’s just announced the Realme GT Neo 3 150W in China.

The GT Neo 3 150W device promises a 50% charge for its 4,500mAh battery in just five minutes. However, the company hasn’t revealed the zero to 100% charging time.

Nevertheless, Realme says the phone’s battery health doesn’t suffer when using 150W charging. More specifically, the manufacturer says that the phone still maintains at least 80% battery health after 1,600 charging cycles (equivalent to roughly four years). This compares very favorably to something like the 120W-toting Xiaomi 11T Pro, which maintains 80% battery health after 800 cycles. And yes, you’re getting a 150W charger in the box.

What else should you know?

Otherwise, the rest of the phone is definitely an upper mid-range proposition. The GT Neo 3 brings a 5nm Mediatek Dimensity 8100 chipset that takes aim at the Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 870, as well as a 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED screen (with Gorilla Glass 5).

Realme’s phone is also equipped with a 50MP IMX766 main camera (with OIS), an 8MP ultrawide lens (119-degree field-of-view), and a 2MP macro camera. Selfies are handled by a 16MP camera in a center-mounted punch-hole cutout.

Other notable features include 360-degree NFC support, 5G+5G dual-SIM, dual stereo speakers, Realme UI 3.0 atop Android 12, and an in-display fingerprint sensor with heart-rate tracking functionality.

Realme says the GT Neo 3 150W variant is available in China starting at 2,699 yuan (~$424) for the 8GB/256GB variant, while the 12GB/256GB variant will set you back 2,899 yuan (~$456). The company is also selling a GT Neo 3 with 80W charging, starting at 1,999 yuan (~$314) for the 6GB/128GB option.

Either way, you can get the phone in blue with white racing stripes (dubbed Le Mans), in white with black racing stripes (called Silverstone), and an all-black variant dubbed Cyclonus Black.
