The new MacBook Pro could offer a touchscreen | Digit

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple is reportedly working on manufacturing MacBook computers that have touch screens. This comes as huge news as Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was strictly against touch screens, and called them “ergonomically terrible”.

Gurman reports that Apple engineers are working on the project quite seriously, based on his conversations with sources who are familiar with the matter. While the company has argued for almost a decade that touch screens just do not belong on laptops, and those who want such functionality should just get the Apple iPad, the company has now warmed up to the idea. Perhaps this is the case because there are plenty of competitors offering such laptops. Apple was always of the opinion that a touch-screen laptop would cut into iPad sales.

When will a touch-screen MacBook launch?

It is believed that Apple may launch the first touch-screen MacBook sometime in 2025, and this would be a part of an overall update the company is planning for the MacBook Pro. We may even see M2 chipsets by then.

Other Apple updates

Apple has also greenlit plans to start manufacturing its own OLED displays for its MacBooks and iPhones. This update will help ensure that the Apple MacBook will be lighter and thinner, with a better display. It is also working on creating microLED displays for Apple Watches. Apple’s new displays may hit the markets sometime around 2024-2025, however, none of this is confirmed, and there are multiple speculations about timelines.

Apple has also not offered any timelines regarding the alleged touch-screen MacBook laptop.
