CD Projekt Red revealed the latest game in The Witcher franchise — The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt — for PC, PS4 and Xbox One console users in 2015. Now, the game developer has announced a next-gen patch for the game which will help the game to run on newer consoles like — PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. According to a tweet shared on the game’s official Twitter account, The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt will release for new-gen consoles on December 14.

The game’s publisher has not revealed what the gameplay of the upcoming version will look like on the latest consoles and details about what to expect from the update. The publisher will host a live stream event related to the new update on Twitch next week. More information about the new version of the fantasy action role-playing title is expected to be revealed at this event.

The tweet also mentions that the users who already own the original game will get the new update for free. PC gamers will also benefit from this update as CD Projekt Red earlier announced that the upcoming version of The Witcher 3 would include ray tracing and faster load times. Apart from this, the new patch will also include downloadable content which is based on the Netflix series The Witcher (2015).
In September 2020, CD Projekt Red announced the new version of The Witcher 3 for modern consoles for the first time. The studio was also planning to launch a new edition of Cyberpunk 2077 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2021. However, both games got delayed to 2022.

The publisher was successful in releasing the latest version of Cyberpunk 2077 in February this year but faced some issues while revealing The Witcher 3. The new update of The Witcher 3 was initially outsourced to Saber Interactive but later CD Projekt Red decided to work in-house on the upgrade.
