TL;DR

  • There are now multiple rumors to suggest a OnePlus Pac-Man phone is in the works.
  • One rumor says it could be a special edition model of the OnePlus Nord 2.
  • The 40th anniversary of Pac-Man was last year, though, so we’re not sure why this would happen now.

OnePlus loves releasing special edition versions of its phones. Whether it’s The Avengers, Star Wars, or even just the McLaren brand in general, we’ve seen plenty of uniquely branded OnePlus devices.

Now, it seems there could be a OnePlus Pac-Man phone in the works. Over at XDA-Developers, the team did some code-sleuthing to discover multiple references to Pac-Man-related features. That includes a lock screen redesign, a fingerprint scanner animation, and multiple other references within the code itself.

Later, frequent leaker Max Jambor tweeted a cryptic message that seems to suggest a OnePlus Nord 2 with some sort of connection to Pac-Man could be on the way.

Now, OnePlus did launch a video game-themed OnePlus 8T last year with the Cyberpunk 2077 model. As such, this wouldn’t be the first time the company has aligned itself with video game properties. The curious thing, though, is that the 4oth anniversary of Pac-Man was last year. Why would there be a OnePlus Pac-Man phone launched about a year after the celebration of the property ended?

It’s possible OnePlus planned to do this last year but couldn’t pull it off. If we assume that, it’s anyone’s guess if these recent clues mean we’ll still see this phone launch or if the plans have been abandoned. Stay tuned.
