There’s more evidence that the iPhone 14 Plus is a sales dud

TL;DR

  • Apple has reportedly cut iPhone 14 Plus production.
  • It’s believed that the company still plans to launch an iPhone 15 Plus, though.

Apple launched the iPhone 14 series last month, and the Mini model has made way for the iPhone 14 Plus. This model offers a larger screen than the standard iPhone 14 without consumers having to pay extra for a Pro model.

Unfortunately, The Information reports that Apple is dramatically cutting production of the iPhone 14 Plus, citing sources in the company’s supply chain.

The Cupertino company reportedly told one Chinese manufacturer to stop production of iPhone 14 Plus components pending a reevaluation of the handset’s demand. Two other suppliers in China that rely on the aforementioned parts apparently cut their production by 70% and 90% respectively.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the iPhone 14 Plus falling short of Apple’s expectations, though. Veteran analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously claimed that demand for the Plus model was lower than that of the iPhone 13 Mini.

It’s worth noting that the Plus device is $899 compared to $999 for the iPhone 14 Pro. And your extra $100 gets you a telephoto camera, 48MP main camera, 120Hz refresh rate, and the Dynamic Island cutout instead of a wide notch. The Plus variant does bring a much larger battery, but it’s otherwise clear that the iPhone 14 Pro offers more bang for your buck.

Still, The Information reports that Apple isn’t giving up on the iPhone Plus line just yet. A source told the outlet that an iPhone 15 Plus is still in the works for next year.
