These 17 Amazon Alexa-powered smart devices now support Matter
Amazon said in a blog post that it has completed the first phase of Matter rollout. “Tens of millions of Alexa customers across the globe now have more ways to connect their devices with the availability of Matter over WiFi spanning 17 different Echo devices, Plugs, Switches, and Bulbs,” the company said.
As per the e-commerce giant, it is rolling out Matter support for the most common device types first. It says that the company is “continuing to work through interoperability, stability and longevity-testing with their partners, ensuring customers have a seamless and high-quality experience with Alexa.”
17 Amazon Echo devices with Matter support
The first 17 Echo devices that are getting Matter support include: Echo Dot (5th Gen), Echo Dot (5th Gen) with clock, Echo (4th Gen), Echo Dot (3rd Gen, 2018 release), Echo Studio, Echo Show 8 (2nd Gen, 2021 release), Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen), Echo Show 5 (2nd Gen, 2021 release), Echo Show 15, Echo Dot (Gen 3 with Clock), Echo Dot (Gen 4 with Clock), Echo Show 5, Echo (v3), Echo Dot Gen 4, Echo Input, Echo Flex and Echo Show 8.
Amazon also claims that currently there are more than 30,000 “Works with Alexa” devices. Matter devices will work alongside existing smart home devices. The first phase rollout is limited to Wi-Fi connectivity and Android phones as well as smart plugs, smart bulbs, and smart switches, The Verge report, sadding that Thread and iOS support should come next year.
Thread is a new networking protocol that makes it easier and faster for smart devices to connect to your home making Matter work better. It works alongside the home Wi-Fi network, and makes connection more reliable and robust by creating a mesh network.
Google brings Matter support to Nest devices, Android
Last week Google announced that it started rolling out Matter support to some smart products, including the original Google Home speaker, Google Home Mini and Google Nest Mini, the Nest Audio, all three Nest Hub devices (first gen, second gen, and Max) and Nest Wifi Pro.
