These are the 5 biggest PC makers in the world

The global PC market has reportedly seen growth by 5% and certain issues continue to hinder the market. According to a report by research firm Canalys, disruption to the global supply chain and logistics network remains the key inhibitor of higher growth in the PC market “More than a year on from the onset of the pandemic, manufacturing continues to be hindered by lockdowns and other COVID-19 related restrictions, particularly in Asia,” said Ishan Dutt, Senior Analyst at Canalys.
Lenovo remains the market leader with 19.8 million units shipped in Q3 2021. HP retained second position but saw a decline of 5% in its shipments. Canalys attributes to this the drop off in Chromebook shipments in the US. Dell secured third spot and saw the highest growth amongst the top 5 brands. Apple saw its Mac devices shipments grow by 14.4% and is the fourth biggest player in Q3 2021. Acer is the fifth biggest brand with over 6 million units shipped in the quarter.

“While there is a marked slowdown from the phenomenal performances in the past quarter in some segments, especially education and consumer, newer opportunities exist,” said Rushabh Doshi, Research Director at Canalys. “Hybrid work models will be an important part of the new normal post-COVID-19 and will require PC vendors to enhance product portfolios and go-to-market strategies, as faster processors, better cameras and anytime-anywhere connectivity take centre-stage,” he added.
According to Canalys, Japan saw the worst decline as PC shipments fell by almost 30%. Even North America (US and Canada) saw shipments drop by 9% year-on-year. However, regions like LATAM, EMEA and Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) registered strong annual growth in shipments of 17%, 16% and 13% respectively, according to Canalys.
