  • Kolkata

Jio 5G services, SIM, and bands

The Jio 5G services are said to be the world’s largest and most advanced 5G network. The services will be available through a standalone network (SA) for which the telco will have a separate infrastructure. Unlike the non-standalone network (NSA), SA can’t operate on the existing 4G infrastructure. This means that you will need a new SIM to use Jio 5G services. The company is yet to reveal its plans to launch Jio 5G SIM in India, but it has announced Jio Air Fiber ultra 5G hotspot to enjoy wireless high-speed fiber-like broadband speeds.

The three-fold advantage of Stand-Alone 5G architecture, largest and best mix of spectrum and Carrier Aggregation technology means that Jio 5G will be able to offer an unparalleled combination of coverage, capacity, quality and affordability,” per the company. With Stand-Alone 5G, Jio is also said to deliver new and powerful services like low latency, massive machine-to-machine communication, 5G voice, Edge computing and network slicing, and the metaverse.

The Jio 5G services will be available on the 3500MHz mid-band spectrum, 25GHz millimetre spectrum, and 700MHz low-band spectrum. The 700MHz band, which offers superior indoor coverage, is exclusive to the telco.
