Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL have reached the end of their update cycle. The handsets, as pointed out by 9to5Google in a report, have received their final update labelled “Feb 2022”. Google has released two versions of the update – version number SP1A.210812.016.B1 for Australian carriers, and SP1A.210812.016.C1 for other variants.
The smartphones were launched in October 2018. The phones were updated to Android 12 last year. Google initially said that the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL will receive Android updates and monthly security patches until October 2021. But the company rolled out November, December and January security updates to the devices.
The January 2022 security patch was pushed out to fix the issue with the Microsoft Teams app. The Teams app prevented Pixel handsets from making emergency calls to 9-1-1. Now, the February 2022 security update is the final update rolling out to the devices.
It is speculated that the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL may get Android 12L operating system. Unfortunately, that did not happen. This means that Pixel 3a and 3a XL will be the oldest Pixel phones to get Android 12L that also remain eligible for the Beta Program.
For those unaware, Android 12L is an upgraded version of its Android 12 mobile OS. The update comes with small tweaks and as Google mentioned it is a ‘feature drop’ for foldables, tablets and devices that work on ChromeOS. It will be primarily available on the Android Emulator as a part of Android Studio, the preview may come to Pixel phones as a beta version later.
