This Android 12 feature may soon come to non-Pixel Android phones

Android 12 introduced a dynamic colour theme system to Pixel 6 phones. It is one of the core features of Google’s Material You design and natively extract colours from wallpapers to apply them to the OS theme. According to an Android Authority report, the feature will soon be coming to non-Pixel phones running Android 12.
While it does not reveal the exact name of the devices, the list may include smartphones offered by Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Xiaomi, Tecno, and others. It is yet not clear whether Google will require manufacturers to extract colours from the user’s wallpaper, or if users will be able to select a core colour themselves.
“As more Android 12 devices land in the next couple months, our OEM partners are working with us to ensure that key design APIs, especially around dynamic colour, work consistently across the Android ecosystem so developers can have peace of mind and users can benefit from a cohesive experience,” Google says in a release.
Notable, Samsung and Xiaomi have already introduced their own versions of dynamic colour themes in their custom OS. Samsung’s One UI 4 and Xiaomi’s MIUI 13 have already added support for the feature.
A report by Android Police previously suggested that Google may make it mandatory for OEMs to bring the feature for all Android 12 devices. It will be a prerequisite for OEMs who wish to qualify for Google Mobile Services (GMS).
As per the report, Google may confirm this requirement on March 14 after which the smartphone manufacturers will have about a month to comply and implement a solution.
