This is what may have helped iPhone 12 series set new sales record for Apple – Times of India

Nine months ago, Apple launched its iPhone 12 lineup and if a report by Counterpoint Research is to be believed, the company has hit a 100 million mark already.
According to a report by Counterpoint Research, the global sales of the iPhone 12 series has crossed the 100 million units mark in April 2021, which is a period of 7 months since the launch — beating the record of the iPhone 11 series which had taken 9 months to hit this figure.
The report attributes the addition of 5G capability and a full OLED screen as reasons why users were attracted to iPhone 12 series handsets.
The report highlights the fact that even though Apple skipped shipping a charger and wired headphones with the iPhone 12 series, that did not dissuade the buyers.
“The launch price of the base variants of the iPhone 11 Pro Max and the iPhone 12 Pro Max was the same at $1,099. The notable upgrades in the 12 Pro Max were 5G capability, a higher RAM/memory, and the A14 Bionic chip… The upgrades, which came at the same price as that of the iPhone 11 Pro Max, supported by aggressive operator promotions, helped the 12 Pro Max sales soar to make it the highest-selling device in the US consistently since December 2020,” said the report.
With record shipment numbers of handsets being sold, the report also predicts that Apple may witness a record revenue cycle. “With the ASP for Apple phones being at an all-time high, the iPhone 12 series’ volume super-cycle will also lead to a revenue super-cycle breaking its own record every year,” added the report.
iPhone 12 series popularity soars
When it comes to iPhone 12 series, a report by Counterpoint Research had claimed that the 2020 iPhone series already captures one-third of smartphone industry revenues during the first quarter of 2021 and the top three sold handsets were the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro.
“The iPhone 11 series’ share in the total iPhone installed base was at 15% in Q1 2020 compared to the iPhone 12 series’ 16% in Q1 2021.” This growth is slightly more noteworthy as there was a gap of one month in the launches of the iPhone 11 series — which was launched in September — whereas the iPhone 12 series iPhones were launched in October giving them less time.
