This laptop from Apple is now ‘vintage’ – Times of India
Apple has added the 12-inch MacBook which the company first released in 2015 to its list of vintage products. A vintage Apple product means that the company has “stopped distributing them for sale more than 5 and less than 7 years ago.” Apple continues to provide software and hardware support for products that are defined as vintage.
“Owners of iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac, or Apple TV products may obtain service and parts from Apple service providers, including Apple Retail Stores and Independent Repair Providers, for a minimum of 5 years from when Apple last distributed the product for sale,” reads Apple’s support page.
Apart from vintage products, there is something called obsolete products as well. Obsolete products, on the other hand, are those that were discontinued more than 7 years ago. The big difference is that vintage products do get hardware service from Apple whereas obsolete products get no support at all. Apple routinely updates this list and you can check the same on Apple’s support website.
Apple launched the 12-inch MacBook in March, 2015. It was considered as the thinnest MacBook and was the first to come with USB Type-C port along with the butter keyboard.
The 2015 12-inch MacBook offered a Retina display with a resolution of 2304×1440 pixels and weighed just 910 grams and was 13.1 mm thin at its thickest point. It came with a bigger trackpad and offered two levels of clicking. The first level is the regular click (you can also turn on tap instead of click via the Settings) while the second deeper click, similar to the Apple Watch’s force touch, allows users to perform additional tasks such as viewing a file in preview mode.
