This may be Apple’s big plan to change wireless charging

Apple is reportedly working on an iPhone that will be able to charge other devices as well. According to a report by AppleInsider, a recently discovered patent by Apple shows that the company is working on an iPhone that will charge other devices or accessories wirelessly through its display. Patent application named “Through-Display Wireless Charging” reveals how the tech giant is planning to incorporate the in-display wireless charging technology into a device.

“A personal electronic device (e.g., a tablet computer) may be configured to wirelessly charge an accessory (e.g., a stylus) through a display face of the device. At least a portion of the display face may be transparent to facilitate display viewing.” reads the patent application.

The technology can be helpful for users of smartwatches and earbuds that can be charged wirelessly. Almost every gadget that the company has launched in the last few years supports wireless charging. The report further mentions that this patent application is credited to eight inventors including Zaki Moussaoui, who is also credited for a patent application about preventing wireless chargers interfering with CarKey.

Technologies that Apple demonstrates in its patent applications do not always make it to the actual product. If the company is planning to incorporate the technology in future iPhones, it may take a few years. As per previous reports, Apple iPhone 14 series, which is set to launch this year, will consist of four models – iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The two Pro models in the series are rumoured to feature triple rear camera setup with a 48MP Wide lens, 12MP Ultra Wide and Telephoto lenses. The company is also reportedly getting rid of its display notch on the upcoming iPhones. It is rumoured that Apple will use a punch hole camera at the front of the devices.
