This new Google Calendar bug is affecting some Gmail users, here’s how – Times of India

Google allows Gmail users to create events directly from the company’s calendar service. According to a report by 9to5Google, Google’s Calendar service is reportedly creating random events from unrelated Gmail messages which include emails and newsletters. The issue seems to be quite widespread as several users have reported the issue on social media channels. Some Twitter users have also reported how the bug is affecting them and has even shared screenshots to show the problem.

How this Gmail bug is affecting users
This new bug is causing Google Calendar to show randomly created all-day events based on Gmail messages. These messages aren’t necessarily related to any specific event, so there’s no clear pattern with this bug. However, the report claims that emails with mentioned dates might be the ones that are triggering the bug.
As per the report, the bug is creating unnecessary all-day calendar events as well as a reminder notification on Android phones with the same title. The report also adds that newsletters also appear to be triggering these events.
How can users fix the bug temporarily
The report didn’t mention what is causing the bug. However, users can temporarily fix the big with a simple workaround. Google users will have to enter the Calendar settings and select the “Events from Gmail” option.
Here, users can find the “Automatically add events from Gmail to my calendar” button. Disabling this feature will stop these events from being created. The report also adds that in 2019, this temporary fix was also used to block spam invites that were affecting users. Google is also soon expected to roll out a permanent fix to resolve the “Google Calender-Gmail” issue.
