The Twitter account of the Ministry of Jal Shakti appears to have been briefly compromised on early Thursday. The hackers posted a series of tweets tagging SwachhBharat and other ministries. All tweets have been deleted now. The tweets posted also tagged some likely bot accounts and some real accounts. Hackers had posted over 80 tweets.
Some accounts are suspected to be bot accounts as they have less than 10 followers. Some tagged accounts are also real with over 2000 followers. Some tweets also tag Pakistani accounts. There are also links to Crypto-based Twitter accounts.
The ministry has confirmed the hacking attack. A formal statement on the hacking is still awaited. All the tweets have been deleted, so it is clear that the account has been restored.
No hacker group has so far taken responsibility for the hacking.

Earlier this year, the Twitter account of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) was briefly compromised. The hackers changed the name of the profile to ‘Elon Musk’ and put out tweets including one saying “great job”. The ministry later clarified that the account had been restored.
Days earlier to I&B ministry account hacking, the account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal Twitter handle was hacked. Tweets promoting cryptocurrency were shared before the account was restored.
