Twitter DOWN: Is Twitter not working? Cannot retrieve tweet error hits

UPDATE: That was fast! The official Twitter Support account has said things on the social networking giant’s website should be back to normal following a widespread outage.

Down Detector recorded tens of thousands of reports of Twitter down this afternoon, with users reporting they had been logged out and unable to use the site.

Following these technical issues the official Twitter Support account posted: “We’ve fixed a technical bug that was preventing timelines from loading and Tweets from posting. Things should be back to normal now. Sorry for the interruption!”

ORIGINAL: Twitter down reports are on the rise today, with users of the micro-blogging website being hit with widespread service distruption.

Independent outage monitor Down Detector has recorded a huge spike in Twitter down reports, with thousands of people experiencing issues with the site.

At the time of writing Down Detetcor UK has registered a peak of over 11,000 Twitter down reports while downdetector.com has seen a high of over 48,000 Twitter down reports.

Down Detector is an independent outage monitor which tracks social media mentions around popular topics to detect the moment a widely used service is taken offline.

The Twitter down reports began coming in today from around 5pm UK time.

While the official Twitter Status website has confirmed that they are receiving more error reports and are looking into it.

The Twitter API Status site said: “We’re experiencing an elevated level of API errors starting around 17:41 UTC and are currently investigating. The presence and scope of any customer impact has not been determined at this time, but we will provide an update as soon as we know more.”
