Twitter is facing a number of cases after Elon Musk fired staff: Reports
A lawyer who is leading a case related to unpaid severance has been cited as saying that “it is very concerning” that Musk thinks “he can walk all over employee rights and doesn’t have to follow the law.” The severance package included bonuses and stock options.
Other cases are against Musk’s ultimatum in an email in which he asked the staff to either work as per new “hardcore” policies or take three months of their salary and quit. The lawyers in the case claim that this plan ignored California law by denying workers the compensation and 60-day warning time required by law.
One of the former employees claimed that it was a “blunt disregard” shown by Musk by asking employees with disabilities or health concerns to come back to the office.
Gender discrimination
Twitter is facing another case wherein two female Twitter employees have filed a class-action lawsuit against the company, accusing it of violating federal and state of California laws that ban gender discrimination at the workplace. The lawsuit claims that Musk laid off 57% of women workers compared to 47% of men.
The report comes a few days after a senior Twitter employee in Ireland got her job back after she refused to agree to Musk’s email asking for employees’ nod on “hardcore” work culture. She said that she was locked out of her laptop and was treated as if she was not an employee of the company despite that she did not resign. She was reinstated as global vice president of policy at Twitter.
