Twitter shuts two offices in India, asks employees to work from home – Times of India
Citing people aware of the matter, Bloomberg reports that Twitter has shut its Twitter office in Delhi and Mumbai. The company’s office in Bengaluru, which is primarily staffed by engineers, is open.
The development comes a few weeks after multiple reports suggested that Twitter also shut its Singapore office.
Last month, Casey Newton, who is a writer at The Platformer, said that Twitter employees working in the Singapore office, which is the company’s Asia-Pacific headquarters, were walked out of the office over non-payment of rent.
Notably, Twitter failed to pay millions of dollars in rent for its San Francisco and London offices. It faced lawsuits from multiple contractors over unpaid services, and auctioned off assets to raise funds.
Twitter layoffs
The billionaire fired over 50% of employees soon after he became the CEO of the company in late October last year. The decision is seen as an effort to get Twitter financially stable by late 2023. Media reports also suggested that Musk has also reduced the occupancy of the San Francisco office.
Meta, Microsoft planning to vacate offices
Citing economic downturns and after laying off thousands of employees, Facebook-parent Meta and Microsoft reportedly said they were planning to vacate offices in Seattle and Bellevue, respectively.
Meta said it plans to sublease its offices at the six-storey Arbor Block 333, on Eighth Avenue North in downtown Seattle, and in the 11-storey Block 6 of the Spring District in Bellevue.
The Menlo Park, California-headquartered company also said it is also reviewing leases for other Seattle-area office buildings.
Meanwhile, Microsoft, which is based in Redmond, said it will not renew its lease at the 26-story City Center Plaza in Bellevue when it ends in June 2024.
