Twitter subscription service: Why the global rollout may see a few days’ delay – Times of India
Citing a report by The New York Times, The Verge says that a manager working on the project said in an internal memo that the company has “made the decision to move the launch of this release to November 9, after the election.” The mid-term elections in the US are slated to be held on November 8. It is likely that Musk wants to address people’s concerns ahead of the mid-term elections. Verified users may pose as politicians and news outlets potentially causing confusion.
Musk warns parody accounts
The development follows an announcement by the SpaceX founder who said that any “Twitter handle engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying “parody” will be permanently suspended.” Musk added, “Previously, we issued a warning before the suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning. Any name change at all will cause temporary loss of verified checkmark”.
As per a report by BBC, multiple accounts that changed their name to Elon Musk have been suspended or placed behind a warning sign. These accounts include handles of US comedian Kathy Griffin and former NFL player Chris Kluwe.
Twitter Blue subscription in India
Over the weekend, it was reported that Twitter Blue will come to India as soon as this month. A user tagged Musk and asked about the expected launch date of the feature in India. Musk replied, “Hopefully, less than a month.” Twitter has also updated its iOS app in Apple‘s App Store and now asks for $8 for a blue check verification mark.
