Twitter to soon get this most requested feature – Times of India

In 2020, Twitter confirmed that the company will never introduce an edit button on the platform.
However, now it seems that the social networking platform has changed plans. Twitter has announced that it is working on an edit button feature that will enable users to edit their tweets.
The Twitter Comms team posted about the upcoming feature on the platform. The company tweeted, “yes, we’ve been working on an edit feature since last year! no, we didn’t get the idea from a poll. we’re kicking off testing within @TwitterBlue Laps in the coming months to what works, what doesn’t, and what’s possible.”

With the inclusion of an edit button Twitter users will be able to edit their tweets without sacrificing their replies, retweets or the likes the tweet has already received. Jay Sullivan, VP of consumer products at Twitter also revealed that the edit button option has been the most requested feature for many years. He further added that the company has been working on the feature since last year.
“Without things like time limits, controls, and transparency about what has been edited, Edit could be misused to alter the record of the public conversation. Protecting the integrity of that public conversation is our top priority when we approach this work,” added Sullivan.
Recently, Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk posted a Twitter poll, asking users if they wanted an edit button. The poll comes after Musk disclosed a 9.2% stake in Twitter. “Do you want an edit button?” Musk asked in the tweet.
Replying to Musk’s poll, Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal tweeted that the consequences of the poll will be important. “Please vote carefully,” he said.
