As per multiple media reports, a bug related to 2FA has left some users unable to access their accounts for several weeks. The problem reportedly began in mid-November. At that time, Twitter Support tweeted that the company was “looking into the few cases where SMS codes aren’t being delivered.”
“To clear up confusion about two-factor authentication on Twitter – it’s still live and a good way to protect your account. If you have it turned on, your chosen authentication method should be good to go,” it said.
Twitter accounts are not receiving verification codes
Some Twitter users complain that they are unable to log in to their accounts on new devices because Twitter is no longer sending the authentication codes by text message.
“We cannot send a text message to this phone number because its operator is not supported,” reads one of the messages received by Twitter users. Furthermore, it seems that those who use an authenticator app or physical authentication token for verification are not experiencing this problem. The Gadgets Now team is also experiencing the 2FA problem.

What is two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication is an extra layer of security for a social media account, including Twitter. Instead of only entering a password to log in, those who have enabled 2FA will also have to enter a code or use a security key to access the account. How to enable 2FA?
Enabling 2FA on your Twitter account is easy.
- Click on your profile photo in the top left corner of the screen on your mobile.
- In the side menu, tap Settings and Privacy
- Tap Security and account access and then tap Security.

- There are three methods to choose from: Text message, Authentication app, or Security key.
