Unopened, factory sealed 2007 iPhone sells for 65 times its original price: Here’s how much it cost – Times of India

An iPhone can easily be put into the list of one of the most desired things. We have seen times when people used to stand in long queues waiting for their turn to get their hands on an iPhone. It looks like that craze hasn’t waned as a person shelled a handsome amount of money to purchase an unopened, factory sealed first-generation iPhone in an auction.
The first-generation iPhone was launched in the US at a price of $599 (approximately Rs 49,200 as per today’s currency rates) in 2007. The iPhone in question here is an 8GB variant and it has been sold for a whopping $39,339.60 (approximately Rs 32,34,000), as per LCG Auctions, the company which held the auction for the smartphone.
The iPhone 2007 had an initial bid of $2,500 (Rs 2,05,500) and stayed at $10,000 (approximately Rs 8,21,990) for the first two days of the auction, Android Authority cited LCG Auctions as saying. The new bids started to come on the final day and after 28 bids, the device was sold for $39,339.60.

While it may seem a bit over the top to some, others know the importance of that phone. Apple co-founder Steve Jobs introduced the phone on January 9, 2007 and the phone went on sale after 5 months. The handset can be considered as a game-changer for the mobile phone industry and has secured a historical place as well as value.
The first-generation iPhone motivated others to innovate to the point that we now have a competitive market. Apple launched the iPhone 14 series last month at a starting price of $799 in the US and Rs 79,900 in India.
