Using 5G on iPhone: Here’s what you need to know

5G is finally here and Airtel has already started offering 5G services in 8 cities. This means, if you happen to be in a location where the 5G services are available and you have a 5G compatible smartphone with you, you can use 5G services right away. However, this holds true only for Android smartphone users. If you have an iPhone, despite being a 5G smartphone, you can’t use 5G on it.

First thing first: Not all iPhones support 5G
Apple actually is a later adopter of 5G bands. The company introduced 5G on iPhone with the Apple A14 Bionic chipset and iPhone 12 series. All iPhone models after that are 5G-ready. The list of iPhones that support 5G includes iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone SE 2nd-generation, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
iPhones are 5G-ready, but currently do not support it
All the above-mentioned iPhones support 5G. But, Indian variants of the phone are 5G-ready and currently only allow users to use 4G networks. There’s no 5G network mode available.
How Apple iPhones will support 5G
Apple is likely to enable the 5G support on compatible iPhones via software update. Apple adding a network mode via software update isn’t new. The company has done the same thing with iPhone 4S and 4G.

When 5G services will be available and how much it will cost
Airtel 5G services are already available in 8 cities, Jio will start offering 5G services by Diwali and VI hasn’t confirmed anything about 5G services. As far as 5G plans are concerned, none of the telecom service providers has announced 5G plans as of now.
Telecom service providers have confirmed that 5G plans won’t cost more compared to 4G plans. Also, all the 5G plans will work with iPhones that support 5G, users won’t require any special plan to use 5G on iPhones.
