Parked electric scooter catches fire in Odisha

The incident of an electric scooter catching fire was reported from the Ulunda block office in the Sonepur district in the state of Odisha. The electric scooter which reportedly belonged to a man named Rabi Narayan Senapati, a resident of the area, caught fire while being parked alongside the road.

The event occurred when the owner of the scooter, Rabi, went to make a purchase at a nearby shop and parked the EV on the side of the road. The batteries on the e-scooter whilst being parked exploded and triggered a fire. The fire eventually engulfed the entire scooter and burnt the EV up completely.

Firefighters reached the site of the incident soon after and took control of the flaming EV. However, the fire seemed to have destroyed the scooter entirely and the video shows that the EV has been charred beyond saving. The cause of the fire is still unclear. However, no casualties linked to the incident have been reported so far.

EVs catching fire are not an isolated event in the country and reports from various parts of the country have shown the safety hazards that e-two wheelers pose in the country. The Government has mandated safety guidelines for manufacturers to establish quality standardization.

In the recent past, a delivery agent in Delhi riding his e-scooter narrowly escaped death as his e-scooter caught on fire while on the move. Another incident that took place in Andhra Pradesh, destroyed 36 electric scooters in a showroom as a fire broke out from a faulty battery. However, the fiery issues get even more pressing as many people have lost their lives due to electric scooters catching fire.
