Vivo X Fold design leaked ahead of launch

The Vivo X Fold, Vivo’s first foldable smartphone, might launch in China as soon as this month. The X Fold when launched will go up against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, OPPO Find N, the smaller Moto Razr 5G and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 amongst other devices in the market. The design details of the Vivo X Fold has now been exposed by the tipster account Digital Chat Station ahead of its scheduled China launch in the form of an outline sketch.

The Vivo X Fold schematic reveals the outer face of the device which includes the front face with a cover screen and the back panel with the camera housing. On the front, there will be a full-screen display with a hole punch cutout for the front camera sensor aligned at the top centre. The screen flows smoothly onto the right edge with a gentle curvature.

At the back, a rectangular design element plays host to the circular camera housing. The camera housing hosts the quad-camera setup, LED flash and microphone(s). The edges also contain buttons: a set of volume rockers, a power button, and an auxiliary button whose function is currently unknown. The extra button could be a configurable button, voice assistant button or a toggle switch for user profile. The back panel also hosts a vertical ‘Vivo X Fold’ branding.

The inner face, which is not visible in the leaked schematic image, is likely to host a larger display. It is rumoured that both the outer and inner displays will contain ultrasonic fingerprint sensors for biometric authentication.

Vivo X Fold specifications (expected)

The Vivo X Fold’s outer display is rumoured to be a 6.5-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz high refresh rate. The inner display will be a larger 8-inch panel with a QHD+ resolution and will also support a 120Hz high refresh rate. Under the hood, we can expect the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Mobile Platform to do duty. However, there is no word on RAM and storage configurations.

The rear quad camera module on the X Fold will consist of a 50MP main camera, a 48MP ultra-wide camera, a 12MP telephoto camera with 2X optical zoom, and an 8MP periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. The device sips juice from an onboard 4,600mAh battery that is rated at 80W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging.
