Volvo XC40 Recharge, India’s first locally assembled luxury EV, sold out in two hours

Swedish car maker Volvo has reported that the first batch of Volvo XC40 Recharge, which was allocated 150 units, has been sold out in just two hours since bookings began yesterday. The Volvo XC40 Recharge that was previewed long back last year went on sale on July 27th at 11 am and has reportedly been sold out for now. The company claims that this is a record-breaking feat for a luxury EV car. 

The Volvo XC40 Recharge that was launched yesterday is a luxury EV SUV and will take on the likes of the Mini Cooper SE, the Kia EV6 and the BMW i4 in India. The vehicle has been priced aggressively courtesy of Volvo’s plan to locally assemble it. 

Volvo’s XC40 Recharge price in India

Volvo claims that its the quickest luxury EV to have been sold out so quickly. The entire lot of 150 units of the XC40 Recharge was sold out in just two hours since the bookings began at 11 am on July 27th.

The Volvo XC40 recharge is priced at Rs 55.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and gets a twin motor set up with AWD as standard. The XC40 Recharge gets a 78kWh battery pack which supports up to 150kW fast charging and is good for an ARAI certified range of 418km on a single charge. 

Volvo plans to start delivery by October 2022. The deliveries for the first 150 units will be wrapped up by December 2022. Volvo will continue taking bookings for the XC40 Recharge henceforth as well, and customers will be allotted vehicles from subsequent batches.

Commenting on this, Jyoti Malhotra, Volvo MD, said,  “Our strategy of showcasing the car across our business partner locations and giving the prospective customers in these cities the opportunity to drive the XC40 Recharge has helped them customers in deciding.”
