Watch: 2-year old OnePlus phone running Windows 11 – Times of India

Microsoft has just announced its latest operating system for PCs– Windows 11. While you are figuring out whether or not your laptop will get Windows 11 or not, a group of developers managed to run Windows 11 on the OnePlus 6T– a Android phone that was launched in 2018, as per a report by XDA Developers.
The first preview of Windows 11 is available for Windows Insiders. There are two builds of Windows 11 OS out there for X64 and ARM64 respectively. The ARM64 build of Windows 11 is supported by some Qualcomm processors but developers are eager to port it to unsupported devices as well, in this case the OnePlus 6T.

The video showcasing the OnePlus 6T device booting Windows 11 already had Windows 10 for ARM installed. The report also said that other smartphones powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset can be used to run Windows 11. However, note that you will lose the core functionalities of your smartphone like Bluetooth, speaker and Wi-Fi while the touchscreen will be supported. Also, USB accessories are supported too.
This also reminds us of the fact that Windows 11 will allow you to use Android apps. For Windows 11, Microsoft has partnered with Amazon. This will enable Windows 11 users to access Android apps through the Amazon App store.
While it’s a big step for Microsoft to provide Android app support for the first time on PC it will not be something that will blow you away. This is because the experience will be more like using an Android phone without Google Play store and Google’s services. It is the same reason as to why you may not want to buy a Huawei phone running HarmonyOS and relying on a third-party Android app store.
