What Elon Musk told this actor from Pakistan on changing Twitter’s algorithm
Pakistani actor-singer Ali Zafar has a suggestion for Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk. Zafar, who has 3.2 million followers, wrote that Twitter should build profile ratings based on the quality of people’s tweets. He further suggested that Twitter should change the algorithm so that a person in the US is able to see content being made in Japan more easily and vice versa. Zafar gave these recommendations in response to Musk’s tweet asking his followers if Twitter should bring back Vine. For those unaware, Vine was Twitter’s short video platform that the company shut down in 2016. Musk also asked people: What could we do to make it better than TikTok?
Replying to these tweets, Zafar posted, “Start building “profile ratings”. People should be incentivised to say good, do good, be honest, creative and constructive. Ranters or anyone who spreads hates and prejudice would be rated into the category by others democratically. People like to identify themselves with A,B,C.”
“Another important thing. Change the algorithms. A person sitting in the U.S should be able to come across content being made in Japan more easily and vice versa. Tweets and content should have a much higher reach and monetisation. Companies can pay for reach, individuals can’t,” added Zafar in another tweet.
Zafar also got a response from Musk on his tweet suggesting a change in Twitter algorithm. “True, Twitter has amazing content in Japan – roughly half of all adults online – but it’s almost never seen outside of Japan,” replied Musk.
Zafar seems to be following Musk’s takeover of Twitter quite ardently. “Exciting. Yes, please make Twitter fun and get all the hate mongers, smear- launchers and fake news spreaders off of it. Let the truth and authentic information be disseminated for the good of humanity. Most importantly creativity, art and innovation. #TwitterTakeover #ELONMUSK,” he had tweeted quoting Musk’s tweet to advertisers where he had spoken of his purpose of buying Twitter.
