whatapp: WhatsApp may bring double verification for more security – Times of India

WhatsApp remains a relatively secure messaging platform. Despite having security measures in place, scams remain rampant on the Meta-owned messaging app. Some are down to the naïveté of users and to curtail this, it is expected that WhatsApp will increase its security by adding another layer of verification.
According to a report by WABetainfo, WhatsApp is testing a double verification system. “Any successful attempt to log into our WhatsApp account from another device requires an additional verification code to confirm,” noted the report.
How is dual verification code expected to work?
Currently, when any WhatsApp user makes an attempt to log in to the platform, he/she has to enter a 6-digit verification code. The report by WABetainfo reveals that when the first code is successfully entered, another 6-digit code must be entered to log in to WhatsApp. Users will get another message which will alert them about a login attempt. In case someone is attempting to log into a user’s account, then they will immediately know and no one will be to access it unless they know the second verification code. The feature will come in handy for those who fall prey to certain scams, which takeover WhatsApp accounts of users.
When is the feature is expected to roll out?
As of now, the feature is still under development and there’s no expected timeline for its availability. However, when the feature does roll out, it is expected to land on both iOS and Android. The feature will reach beta users but as of now, there’s no word on that either. Do note that there are certain features that don’t get past the development stage. However, this is a feature that we do expect to be rolled out to users and it will certainly enhance the security of WhatsApp users.
