While Google hasn’t listed much in the Android 13 QPR1 Beta 2 changelog, Esper Senior Technical Editor Mishaal Rahman has given a sneak peak into what we can expect from the stable update later this year. The beta 2 has T1B2.220916.004 build number and brings October security patch as well as fixes for various stability, battery, or performance issues. The Android 13 QPR1 Beta 2 can be tested on Google Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a smartphones.
Android 13 QPR1 Beta 2 features
- The beta 2 brings a little update in the design for the Safety Center, which still hasn’t rolled out yet. The options are stacked in a compact list-style interface as compared to the previous beta. The new “Safety Center” is the unified security & privacy settings.
- Clear Calling feature, which reduces the ambient noise when talking on the phone, gets a new graphic and updated description. The system languages page has added an introductory description up top.
- The media player progress bar, which got a redesign in Android 13, now gets a tweak. The wave-shaped progress bar now has a vertical line instead of a dot.
- The Battery Health setting is removed from Settings and put into Settings Intelligence. The Battery Health gives users an estimate of the phone’s battery capacity and offers tips on prolonging battery health.
For the unaware, the Quarterly Platform Releases, or QPRs, are delivered to Google Pixel devices every three months. This is probably one of the many features that keeps Pixel lovers loyal to the brand and may even compel prospective buyers to make a purchasing decision. Each stable update brings “refinements such as bug fixes and improvements to stability and performance.”
The QPRs are a part of Features Drop update that make Pixel smartphones better over time. Apart from giving Pixel users a set of enhancements and bug fixes, it also allows Google to preview some new features that it is working on. The QPR1 beta 1 was released in September and a stable version should be available in December. The company started releasing these quarterly features last year.
