WhatsApp ‘Chat Transfer’ feature on Android: Here’s how it may work

WhatsApp, in its earlier report (via WABetaInfo), said it is working on the ‘Chat Transfer’ feature that will enable users to transfer their chat from one Android smartphone to another. Users running that app on Android operating systems need to open the chat transfer option and scan the QR Code on the screen. The QR code will appear on the new Android device. After scanning the QR code, the chat will be migrated to the Android device. This feature is available only to Android phones so the support to transfer the chat history to an iOS device by using a QR Code is not planned at the moment.
Once the feature is rolled out, WhatsApp users will be able to access the feature in the Settings app. As per a previous report by WABetaInfo, the platform that tests WhatsApp features before they are released to the masses, since the feature will allow users to easily migrate their chat history from the phone to another Android device so they may not need to back up their chat history on Google Drive before switching to a new device.

“Instead, users may simply use the Chat Transfer feature to move their conversation to their new phone,” the report said. It is to be noted that WhatsApp Chat Transfer feature is under development and the company is working on bringing this feature for a future update of the app.
Last year in July, WhatsApp released a feature that allowed users to move chat from Android to iOS using the Move to iOS app. The feature helped users to switch to a different device without losing their chat history.
WhatsApp ‘Message Yourself’ feature
Meanwhile, the Meta-owned messaging app in its most recent update added a new feature – ‘Message Yourself’ — that allows users to communicate with themselves just like they would with anyone else. The feature was initially rolled out in beta version, but it is now accessible to both iOS and Android users. The new feature is very useful because it allows WhatsApp users to send notes, reminders, and updates to just themselves. In addition to this, users can send photos, videos, audio, and document sharing from the gallery or file manager directly from their phone to chat.
