WhatsApp could soon allow you to mute spam calls with this new feature
The yet-to-be-announced feature has been spotted by WABetaInfo and comes after reporting about another experimental feature called ‘Newsletters’ that is meant to simplify group communications.
Mute WhatsApp spam calls soon
WaBetaInfo has posted a screenshot that shows the toggle for muting unknown calls and this will be found in the Settings menu of the app. When enabled, this feature will automatically prevent you from getting calls from an unknown number. However, the calls will still be displayed in the call list and notification centre. This will help you to stay aware of who called you.
Spam on WhatsApp is nothing new and it keeps coming back in many forms. There are many ads acting as useful services. The instant messaging app was spotted as a quick way to block spam messages. The new mute toggle is not visible in plain sight though it surfaced from the recent Android beta platform. It isn’t clear when WhatsApp will roll out the mute toggle but we can speculate public testing might begin soon.
As for the Newsletter feature, this will have a disadvantage in that it will always display the creator’s phone number publicly. This will allow any WhatsApp Community member to contact you even without your consent.
