WhatsApp has stopped working on these old iPhones and Android devices starting today
WhatsApp has stopped supporting 40-plus devices starting today (January 1, 2023). The list includes both Android phones and iPhones. But before you get worried, the smartphones in the list are really old.
We provide support for Android devices that meet the following requirements: “Your Android phone is running OS 4.1 and newer” says the company on its website. For iPhones it says, “We support iOS 12 or newer, but we recommend using the latest version available.”
What WhatsApp say about discontinuing support on old devices
“To keep up with the latest advances in tech, we routinely stop supporting older operating systems to point our resources to supporting the latest ones. If we stop supporting your operating system, you’ll be notified and reminded a few times to upgrade your device to continue using WhatsApp.” The company also says that it updates its ‘supported devices’ page regularly to inform users about the phones that are supported and those that are not. The page lists both Android and Apple iOS devices.
