WhatsApp could increase the maximum number of users that can be a part of a group. As per a report published by WABetaInfo on October 9, 2022, WhatsApp is working on larger groups that can accommodate as many as 1024 participants. Although the feature is not available for all users, it is currently in the beta testing phase. The development comes months after WhatsApp increased the original limit to 512 users, allowing large companies or groups to stay connected.
WhatsApp is testing the feature in Argentina
As per WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp update rolled out for beta users on Android and iOS contains the ability to add up to 1024 people to a WhatsApp group. Adding 1024 members in a group could be very important for users as “sub-groups of communities support the same new limit, and WhatsApp is also developing new tools to give admins more control,” states the report. The publication also informs that the test was conducted in Argentina, where the instant messaging platform is also experimenting with a feature that lets users share files up to 2GB in size. From what it looks like, WhatsApp may release the feature shortly.
WhatsApp recently increased the group capacity from 256 members to 512 members
Initially, WhatsApp users could only add up to 256 members to a group, but that changed with a recent update. Other platforms that provide the online messaging facility, such as Telegram and Signal, allow up to 200,000 and 1,000 members in a group, respectively. Can you imagine a scenario where WhatsApp users might need to add more than a thousand people to a group? It could be the case for businesses or enterprises or some media outlets that broadcast news and other updates. Still, regular WhatsApp users might not use the feature to its fullest potential.
