WhatsApp reportedly working on feature that will allow users to create Community

WhatsApp has reportedly started to roll out a new beta update for Android smartphones bringing the version up to 2.21.25.17. According to a report by WABetaInfo, the update comes with hidden references about a feature that will allow users to create Communities in future updates. For those who don’t know, the Facebook owned messaging platform has been working on a Community feature for a while now. According to previous reports, the feature will be likely linked to the Groups.
As per a previous report by WABetaInfo, the feature will provide more control to the Group administrators. The feature is expected to provide the option to create Groups within Groups. The feature will be quite similar to how multiple channels are arranged under an umbrella Discord community. The report further revealed that the Sub-Groups also appear to be end-to-end encrypted.
Now, as per the recent screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, an administrator will be able to link some groups to form a Community. As per the image, the app also states that “When you link a group, everyone in it will be added to the community and its announcement group. WhatsApp has not yet revealed any official detail about the feature but the report suggests that it will take a lot of time until it is rolled out to the public.
This week, the platform has also announced more control for its disappearing messages feature. Users now have the option to turn on disappearing messages automatically for all their new one-on-one chats. Once set, all future messages in these WhatsApp chats will be automatically deleted. Apart from this, the company has also added two new durations for disappearing messages: 24 hours and 90 days. The company has clarified that the feature is optional and does not change or delete any of your existing chats. Disappearing messages setting also won’t affect messages that users previously sent or received in the chat.
