After rolling out extended group limit, redesigned location sticker and export backup in beta last week, the Meta-owned instant messaging app has now started rolling out a new do not disturb API for missed calls.
WABetaInfo has reported that WhatsApp has started to support a new iOS 15 API which will tell users if they’ve missed incoming WhatsApp calls due to the do not disturb service. Simply put, WhatsApp on iOS can now detect whether the DND service is enabled and also notify users.
As per the report, the feature is currently rolling out to iOS 15 in TestFlight. Those who are running the beta version of WhatsApp on iOS 15 will be able to see a new label under the missed calls section — ‘Silenced by Do No Disturb’.
The new addition on WhatsApp will tell users the exact reason if they’ve missed an incoming WhatsApp call due to the notification being turned off by the DND service of the device.
It is also important to note that the caller won’t be notified of the same as the information is only limited to the receiver’s device.
For now, the feature is only available on WhatsApp beta running on iOS 15. Currently, there’s no information on whether the company is planning to extend the feature to other platforms including Android and Desktop.
