WhatsApp takes an aim at Google Meet, Zoom with its new feature
WhatsApp has brought a new feature allowing users to create direct links to calls, both voice and video. This has been a common feature on video conferencing apps like Zoom, Google Chat, and Meet, but now it has come to WhatsApp. The feature dubbed “Call Links” lets people create links to video and voice calls and share it with their contacts on WhatsApp.
Mark Zuckerberg took it to Facebook to announce the feature. “We’re rolling out call links on WhatsApp starting this week so you can share a link to start a call with a single tap,” said Zuckerberg in the post.
One can create links for both voice and video calls and share with their friends or family on WhatsApp chat. The option to “Create call link” will appear under the Calls tab.
Currently, users can join ongoing calls, but the new “Call Link” feature will make things easier for you, as users can share a link with people, and they can join on their comfort by simply clicking the link.
The “Call Links” feature has begun rolling out, so you should see the feature inside WhatsApp in the coming days.
In the same post, Zuckerberg also confirmed that encrypted video calling for up to 32 participants is under testing. However, there is no word on when this will be rolled out to end users. WhatsApp currently allows up to 8 people to join a video call, which is way behind the competition.
The ability to create and share call links and expanded video call capacity could help WhatsApp go against the likes of Google Meet and Zoom.
