WhatsApp testing two new features for Windows users – Times of India

NEW DELHI: WhatsApp recently introduced six new features for its voice message functionality. It appears that the popular messaging app has started testing a new feature for Windows users. Facebook-owned WhatsApp has started testing a new ‘View Once’ feature on Windows. The feature will enable users to access photos and videos only once. Along with this, the app has also started testing a new pop-up menu for phone numbers that send you a message and choose between dialing them or adding to contacts.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, the Twitter account that tracks changes in WhatsApp build, WhatsApp for Windows beta 2.2212.2.0 has been released for early testers. The beta update suggests that WhatsApp users on Windows will have the ability to view photos and videos shared using the ‘View Once’ feature. However, the update does not include the option to send media content that can be viewed once.
WhatsApp introduced the ‘View Once’ feature on Android and iOS last year. With the ‘view once’ feature, photos and videos sent in this mode can be viewed only once. The sent media will disappear from the chat once a user opens the photo or video.
While this feature may sound interesting, do note that the person to whom you are sending the photos or videos can always save them by taking a screenshot. WhatsApp doesn’t prevent users from taking screenshots nor does it notify users when the receiver of the message has taken a screenshot.
Along with this, WABetaInfo has also revealed that WhatsApp is also working on introducing a pop-menu for phone numbers for Windows users. It gives the ability to dial the number directly using the default app or add it to the contact list. Also, if the number is already active on WhatsApp, then the app allows you to directly chat with the user.
