WhatsApp tests new companion mode for Android tablets
WhatsApp Android tablet companion mode: Availability
The company is reportedly rolling out an update via the Google Play Beta Program which will bring the app to version 2.22.24.8 on Android and will include the latest “WhatsApp for tablet” feature.
This feature is still under development and is available only for a handful of beta testers. WhatsApp’s latest companion mode for Android tablets is expected to reach more users in the coming days.
WhatsApp Android tablet companion mode: Importance
Currently, users need a secondary phone number to access WhatsApp on their Android tablets that support LTE connectivity. Even if you use your primary phone number (linked to your smartphone) to access WhatsApp on an Android tablet or any other smartphone, you will be logged out from your account on the main device.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has started testing a version of the companion mode that will help users to link an Android tablet to an existing account. This feature will allow users who own Wi-Fi-only tablets or don’t have a secondary phone number to access WhatsApp on multiple devices.
WhatsApp Android tablet companion mode: How will it work
WhatsApp’s Android tablet companion mode feature is likely to introduce a new in-app banner. Users who are a part of the WhatsApp Android beta program can update their app from Google Play Store to check if the multi-device feature is enabled for them.
Once enabled, beta testers will be able to see a QR code screen after opening WhatsApp on your tablet. By scanning the code, beta users will be able to link their tablets to their existing WhatsApp accounts.
